Bushfire Recovery Services Moving Forward

On 4 March 2004, the ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope announced changes to the delivery of bushfire recovery services in the ACT.

The ACT Government has moved the bushfire recovery process forward by integrating services that were provided by the Recovery Centre and the Taskforce Secretariat into mainstream community and public service agencies.

These include ACT Health, the Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services, Urban Services, ACT Planning and Land Authority, Relationships Australia, Woden Community Services and Communities @ Work.

The recovery process is being supported by a new area in the Chief Minister’s Department, Bushfire Support Unit.

The Bushfire Support Unit provides support for bushfire-affected residents in the following area:

  • emotional, social, family and health;
  • rebuilding assistance and advice;
  • practical assistance including financial support and counselling; and
  • rural services, environmental advice and information.

For more information go to the media release Bushfire Recovery Services Moving Forward (Word, 595KB) or call the Bushfire Support Unit on 6205 5733.
